Job Description

The Bartender is responsible for preparing, mixing, and serving drinks and beverages correctly and serving members and guests directly or through serving staff. 
This is a part time position with full time potential.

POSITION FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

  • Greet all members, and guests in a warm, friendly, service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Club standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the Club.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and nametag when working.
  • Be knowledgeable of and comply, at all times, with the Club’s standards, policies, and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Inspect the bar before opening to ensure that adequate supplies are available. Request additional supplies as necessary.
  • Stock bar and complete pre-opening procedures.
  • Mix, prepare, and serve alcoholic beverages to members and guests and mix and prepare beverages ordered by F&B servers according to approved standard recipes.
  • Present beverage menu, make recommendations, and answer all related questions.
  • Record drink orders accurately into the register system and comply with standard operating procedures.
  • Respond promptly to requests from members, guests, and service staff politely and professionally. Report complaints to a manager as they occur.
  • Attempt to limit problems related to members’ and guests’ excessive drinking by following established procedures.
  • Provide attentive service, focusing on members’ and guests’ needs.
  • Collect payments for drinks served.
  • Clean and lock the bar are according to prescribed closing procedures.
  • Manage bar operation, monitor bar inventory, and order and restock bar supplies as needed.
  • Ensure clean glassware, bar equipment, and work areas.
  • Comply with and enforce all local alcohol, safety, and hygiene regulations and policies.
  • Continually practice beverage and revenue control procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings including pre-shift (line-up) meetings and training as required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor. 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL:

  • High school or equivalent education required.
  • Minimum one-year related experience and/or training required.
  • Of legal age to prepare and serve alcoholic beverages.
  • Assures that all federal, state, and local laws and club policies and procedures for the service of alcoholic beverages are consistently followed.
  • Skilled at slowing and refusing alcoholic beverage service when necessary.
  • Excellent listening skills, oral communication skills, organizational skills, and positive interpersonal skills required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of beer, wine, spirits, and standard mixed drink recipes.
  • Working knowledge of bar equipment.
  • Knowledge of classes of alcohol, brand names, different glasses, and garnishments.
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation practices.
  • Demonstrated results-oriented and capable of working with minimal direction.
  • Ability to work at large or small events with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced environment.

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Required to stand for long periods and walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, and twist or reach.
  • Requires ability to perform a variety of manual labor tasks that will require some strenuous physical efforts, such as carrying, pushing, pulling, lifting, or moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Continuous repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
  • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Must work well in stressful, high-pressure situations and maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
  • Must be effective in listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by members, guests, and coworkers.
  • Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work may be performed indoors or outdoor setting depending on the outlet. Varied weather conditions are expected with exposure to heat/humidity, or cool/cold weather and noisy environment. Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, and extended hours as business dictates.

 
PAY:

  • Bartenders earn $9.00 an hour plus gratuities.
