About Opterus Research and Development:
Established in 2018, Opterus is a fast-growing provider of critical spacecraft components and deployable structures. We are on a mission to transform the aerospace and defense industry by helping our partners accomplish more in space with less. Opterus combines our patented high-strain composites with origami principles to design and manufacture high-performance rollable booms, RF structures, solar arrays, and other next-generation structures and systems. We're looking for a motivated team player to join us in unfolding the future of space.

About the Position:
As a Mechanical Engineer on the RF Systems and Solar Arrays team, you will play an exciting role in developing lightweight, high-performance deployable structures for spacecraft. This role is open to early career engineers or recent graduates. Our ideal candidate will have some industry-related mechanical engineering experience, preferably with solar arrays, RF antennas, and/or composites. In this dynamic role, you will have the opportunity to support various stages of the project lifecycle, from early ideation to assembly and flight validation.

Responsibilities :
• Support the design and analysis of structural components and deployable systems through initial ideation, prototyping, qualification, and production
• Create CAD assemblies (SolidWorks), build documentation, and other mechanical drawings
• Provide hands-on support for assembly and integration of hardware in a clean room environment
• Test and validate structural components and designs for flight readiness
• Iterate and prototype designs frequently, characterizing performance and documenting results
• Collaborate with production and analysis teams to meet project goals: adhering to quality standards, budgets, and timelines
• Exercise the ability to quickly adapt, pivot, and offer creative solutions to unforeseen challenges
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
• BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related discipline; MS preferred
• Preferably 1-3 years of industry experience, specifically with spacecraft design, solar arrays, or RF antennas
• Demonstrated creative problem-solving in engineering
• Understanding of GD&T and standard analysis practices
• Fluency in CAD, preferably SolidWorks
• Strong organizational and communication skills (oral, written, and presentation)
• Team-oriented with the ability to be a self-starter and work independently
• Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, etc.)
• US citizen or permanent residen

Compensation and Benefits:
• Salary range of $72,000 - $100,000, based on experience and qualifications
• Flexible and hybrid work schedules: 9/80 or 10/80 schedules, with two or more days in office
• Opterus pays 100% of employees' premiums and 70% of dependents' premiums
• Medical, Dental, Vision, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Life and AD&D insurances
• 401K matching up to 4%
• 9 paid holidays
• Work within a community-oriented environment at Forge Campus. Amenities include an onsite restaurant, brewery, coffee shop, and multiple shared outdoor spaces
