Job Summary and Responsibilities

Assists in the Anatomic Pathology department with a variety of tasks involved in the setup of specimens supply management and instruments. Provides other services that support the efficient and effective operation of the pathology department.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

1. Correctly interprets provider laboratory requests and determines specimen requirements. Correctly labels and identifies patient samples submitted to the pathology lab.
2. Performs duties assigned with accuracy and precision meeting the standards of the Laboratory policies.
3. Records gross descriptions of cytology specimens and selects appropriate specimen preparation methods for the type of specimen received.
4. Maintains quality control records.
5. Follows all protocols established to prevent cross contamination between specimens.
6. Takes responsibility for the department workflow and expected turnaround time goals.
7. Displays competency operating troubleshooting and maintaining equipment. Completes all documentation of maintenance logs and checklists.
8. Retrieves specimens slides and tissue blocks as directed. Responsible for the storage and disposal of specimen slides and blocks.
9. Assists in maintaining reagent and supplies inventory.
10. Participates in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement programs as directed.

Job Requirements

High School Diploma/ GED

6 months clinical laboratory experience
