Job Description and Duties
Under the general supervision of the Supervising Special Investigator I, the Special Investigator will conduct independent investigations to include planning, organizing, report writing and conducting interviews, which may require traveling throughout the State of California

Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Major in criminal justice, law enforcement, criminology, or business or public administration.
- Minor in criminal justice, law enforcement, criminology, business, or public administration with evidence that the following courses have been completed: introduction to criminal justice, introduction to criminal law, basic investigation, evidence, criminal procedure, and philosophy of law.

Statement of Qualifications
The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is a narrative discussion of how your education, training, experience, and skills meet the minimum and desirable qualifications and qualify you for this position. The SOQ also documents your ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing.

- Explain your experience and training in conducting investigations
and report writing. Provide examples of skills used when completing the above
tasks.
- While conducting an investigation, a witness you are attempting to
interview becomes uncooperative and is unwilling to participate in the
investigation. How would you handle this situation?
- An irate educator whose case you are assigned calls and challenges
you and the Agency’s review process. The educator escalates the conversation to
become inappropriate. How would you handle and de-escalate the conversation?
- Explain your process for managing
large volumes of tasks that require both accuracy and speed. What systems or
habits do you rely on? Include an example where this process was tested?
